Produces thick, stocky shafts that are easy-to-clean & peel, have white shanks with dark blue leaves that are attractive and have an upright habit. Great sauteed and roasted. Perennial Herb: Native to India. The strongly lemon-scented leaves are used in cooking. They are good in stir-fry, with seafood, in soups, curries, sauces, pickles and tea. Developed by George Raleigh, Cornell University & AAS Winner in 1963. Soft, buttery-textured leaves enclose a crisp, juicy, loose inner head of blanched, sweet-tasting leaves & the most nutritious of all lettuces. Forms a small 6" fan-shaped rosette, good for salads & lettuce wraps. A "cut & come again," so harvest outer leaves along the way. Sun/part shade. Very heat tolerant.
