Name means “sugar loaf” in Italian. It is a fine upright type w/soft green outer lvs & crisp cntrs. Known for its sweetness, this is considered one of the finest sugarloaf chicories in Europe. It doesn’t have the bitterness you normally associate w/chicory. Its tall, large lvs are shaped like a Romaine lettuce crossed w/a napa cabbage. The tightly wrapped head makes it ideal for shredding.
